Hi and welcome to Sunset Refillery! My name is Danielle Colombo. I was raised on Galveston Island and grew up surfing and spending a lot of time on the beach with my family and friends. Since 2011, I have acquired my BA in Art History, lived, and worked in the Texas Hill Country.

Growing up in Galveston, I was always daunted by the amount of plastic bottles and waste that litter our beaches. I experienced the same when I moved to San Marcos to attend Texas State University, where the river was my hangout spot. I love the beach, I love the river, I love wildlife and I am inspired by Earth’s offerings. Over time I have learned about the positive impact some other areas and countries are making to combat the damage of our environment.

My journey to change began when I realized how much I was buying in the form of single-use plastic that would eventually end up in landfills. I had so many plastic bottles for different products that were full of harmful chemicals. Not only was I buying my own trash to just throw away after a few uses, but also using products that were questionable with the effect they had on me and the environment. Slowly, I began to transition to a lower waste lifestyle. In the process I practiced abating harmful chemicals, upcycling, composting, creating some of my own products, and growing my own foods and herbs.

Refill shops are not a new concept, but they are sparse. It dawned on me that there was not one on or near my beloved Island. My mission is to bring my neighbors in Galveston (and beyond) a way to help our Home Planet by reducing single-use plastic and providing chemical-free, cruelty-free, eco-safe products that are good for the earth and good for you. Products are either refillable, biodegradable or container free.

I invite YOU to join me on the journey to reducing plastic waste.

Many thanks,
